Aliens in the Attic
Short description
The Pearson family travels to a countryside home for a summer vacation, but their trip is interrupted by the arrival of small extraterrestrials. These invaders hide in the attic and intend to conquer Earth. The children of the family must team up to fight off the hostile intruders and protect their home.
Directed by John Schultz, this film followed his previous work on The Honeymooners. The cast includes Carter Jenkins, Austin Butler, Ashley Tisdale, Ashley Boettcher, Robert Hoffman, and Doris Roberts. Produced by Barry Josephson, the movie was a joint production between Canada and the United States involving companies such as 20th Century Fox and Regency Enterprises.
With a budget of 45 million USD, the film earned 58 million USD at the worldwide box office. Audience reception was mixed, with a rating of 5.4/10 on IMDb based on 26,000 votes and a rating of 5.7/10 on TMDB from 1,081 votes. Film critics gave the movie a lower score of 4.4/10 across 70 reviews.
What's left behind the scenes
- The working title of the film was long "They Came from Upstairs," which later became one of the advertising slogans.
- The screenplay, written by Mark Burton and Adam Goldberg, was acquired by 20th Century Fox in March 2006, and direct work on the project began a year later, in March 2007.
- Filming took place from January 28 to April 18, 2008, in Auckland, New Zealand, and its surroundings. The main filming location was an old, two-story mansion with twenty-two rooms, the restoration and reconstruction of which cost $700,000. The owners of the mansion, a couple with four children, moved to a small cottage nearby for the duration of filming. Several additional scenes were filmed there again in April 2009.
- A video game based on the film was released on August 4, 2009, for personal computers, as well as Nintendo DS, Wii and Playstation 2 consoles.
