Hateship Loveship

A quiet, socially awkward caregiver named Johanna Parry takes a job looking after an elderly man and his teenage granddaughter, Sabitha. Sabitha resents the new arrangement and rarely sees her father, Ken, who is in recovery and has long been absent from the household. With help from her friend Edith, Sabitha begins writing emails to Johanna while posing as Ken. Johanna, who has grown interested in Ken, believes the messages are genuine and that a romance is developing, not knowing the correspondence is a deception orchestrated by the girl.

The film is a drama directed by Liza Johnson, her second feature after Return, and it was written by Mark Poirier. Kristen Wiig plays Johanna, with Guy Pearce as Ken, Hailee Steinfeld as Sabitha, Sami Gayle as Edith, Jennifer Jason Leigh as Chloe and Christine Lahti as Eileen. It was produced by Robert Ogden Barnum, Michael Benaroya and Cassian Elwes, with 42 crew members credited.
