Wallace & Gromit's Cracking Contraptions is a collection of ten short animated episodes in which the inventor Wallace demonstrates his latest homemade machines, with his long-suffering dog Gromit on hand to deal with the consequences. The devices include an automatic shopper, a mechanical chef, a machine for writing Christmas cards, a television remote, a snowman builder, a bully-proof vest, a cracker vacuum, a turbo diner, an automatic sleep inducer and a football launcher. Few of them behave the way their creator intends, and Gromit is usually left to rescue Wallace from his own creations.
The film was directed by Loyd Price and Christopher Sadler, who wrote the screenplay with Nick Park, the creator of the characters. Harry Linden and Peter Lord produced it for Aardman, the British studio behind the earlier Wallace & Gromit shorts, and Peter Sallis returned to voice Wallace. It runs twenty-three minutes in total and was released in 2002, arriving after the studio's earlier work with these characters while their feature-length adventure was still to come.
On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.5 from around 4,300 votes, and on TMDB 7.3 from roughly 126 votes. The two scores sit close together, indicating that audiences have responded to the shorts in much the same way across both platforms.
