Harvie Krumpet is an Australian stop-motion animated short about a man born in Poland whose life is shaped by misfortune. He has Tourette's Syndrome, suffers a series of setbacks, and eventually moves to Australia, where he takes on a string of unremarkable jobs. Throughout his life he keeps a book of "fakts" hanging around his neck, recording the things he learns. Despite everything, Harvie holds on to an optimistic outlook and finds pleasure in small everyday moments, including love and a period of nudity. The film traces his unusual biography from childhood to old age.
The short was directed and written by Adam Elliot and produced by Melanie Coombs. It stands as the first of the three films Elliot has directed, followed by Mary and Max and Memoir of a Snail. Geoffrey Rush narrates, with John Flaus as the voice of Harvie, Kamahl as a statue of Horace, and Julie Forsyth voicing several characters. Running 22 minutes, it was released in October 2003.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 7.9 from around 9,800 votes, while on TMDB it has a 7.4 from roughly 203 votes.
