Vibes

Vibes is a 1988 American action-comedy with a romantic thread, directed by Ken Kwapis from a screenplay by Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel. Sylvia Pickel, a medium, and Nick Deezy, a psychometrist, meet at a New York research facility devoted to paranormal abilities. An opportunist named Harry Buscafusco approaches them with an offer of fifty thousand dollars to travel to South America and find his missing son. Once the pair reach Ecuador, it becomes clear that Harry's stated purpose is not the real one: he is after something far older, and the expedition heads into Andean country associated with the Incas, where rivals, local dangers and a hidden source of strange power await.

Jeff Goldblum plays Nick and Cyndi Lauper plays Sylvia, with Peter Falk as Harry; Googy Gress, Julian Sands and Darryl Henriques also appear among a credited cast of thirty-four. The film followed Kwapis's Follow That Bird and preceded a run of comedies including Dunston Checks In, The Beautician and the Beast and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

Released on August 5, 1988, Vibes runs 99 minutes and was made for a budget of 18 million dollars, against a worldwide gross of about 2 million. On IMDb it holds 5.7 from roughly 5,700 votes; on TMDB it stands at 5.6 from around 87 votes. A critics' rating of 3.6 from 23 reviews places it below even the modest audience scores.
