Kid Cannabis

Kid Cannabis tells the story of Nate Norman, an eighteen-year-old school dropout in northern Idaho who teams up with his older friend Topher to smuggle marijuana across the Canadian border. The scheme brings in far more money than either of them expected, and the pair expand the operation into a large-scale drug ring. As the profits grow, so does the attention of federal agents, and Nate finds his new life harder to control than he imagined. The film is based on a true story previously reported in Rolling Stone magazine.

John Stockwell directed and wrote the screenplay, working from a budget of about five million dollars. It arrived in 2014, between In the Blood and Kickboxer: Vengeance, as the ninth of the twelve features he has directed. Jonathan Daniel Brown plays Nate, with Kenny Wormald as Topher, and the cast includes Ron Perlman, Aaron Yoo, John C. McGinley and producer Corey Large. Filming took place in Canada across a credited cast of thirty-two.

On IMDb, viewers rate the film 6.4 out of 10 from around 11,000 votes, while on TMDB it holds 6.1 out of 10 from a much smaller pool of 192 votes. A critics' score of 6.6 out of 10 from seven reviews places it slightly above both audience measures, though all three figures point to a modestly received drama.
