River's Edge

River's Edge is a crime drama set in a small Oregon town, where a group of teenagers spend their time drinking, using drugs and drifting through parties. Their routine is shattered when one of them, Samson, kills his girlfriend and leaves her body by the river. He tells his friends what he has done, and when they go to the riverbank they find he has told them the truth. The group is left to decide whether to report him to the authorities or protect him, and the choice divides them as some, particularly Layne, argue for standing by their friend.

The film was directed by Tim Hunter from a screenplay by Neal Jimenez, and produced by Sarah Pillsbury and Midge Sanford. It was the first of the features Hunter directed, ahead of The Maker, Control, Kings of South Beach, Looking Glass and Smiley Face Killers. The cast includes Crispin Glover as Layne, Keanu Reeves as Matt, Ione Skye as Clarissa, Roxana Zal as Maggie, Daniel Roebuck as Samson and Dennis Hopper as Feck, among 23 credited cast members and 52 credited crew. Made for about 2 million dollars, it took roughly 5 million dollars worldwide.
