The Storm Riders

The Storm Riders follows two orphans, Striding Cloud and Whispering Wind, who are taken in and raised by the warlord Lord Conqueror. A prophecy tells him that the pair's combined powers could either secure his rule or bring about his fall, so he has them trained as his warriors while scheming to keep them under his control. Their loyalty is tested by the bond between them, by Lord Conqueror's daughter Charity, and by the growing suspicion that their master's plans for them are not what they seem.

The film is a Hong Kong fantasy action picture directed by Andrew Lau Wai-Keung, the eighth of the twenty-five features he has directed in chronological order, coming between Young and Dangerous 5 and A Man Called Hero. Manfred Wong Man-Chun wrote the screenplay and produced alongside Li Zhu-An and Raymond Chow Man-Wai. Aaron Kwok plays Striding Cloud and Ekin Cheng Yee-Kin plays Whispering Wind, with Sonny Chiba as Lord Conqueror, Kristy Yang Gongru as Charity, Shu Qi as Chu Chu and Anthony Wong as Sword Saint among a credited cast of twenty-eight.

Released in July 1998 and running 128 minutes, the film carries an IMDb rating of 6.4 from around 4,300 votes and a TMDB rating of 6.5 from roughly 111 votes, indicating a modest but settled reception.
