Fading Gigolo follows Fioravante, a middle-aged New York handyman who, short of money, agrees to a business arrangement proposed by his friend Murray. Murray, who is also struggling financially, becomes the manager of sorts for Fioravante's new career as a paid companion to wealthy women. The arrangement gains momentum as more clients seek him out, but the situation grows complicated when Fioravante becomes involved with Avigal, a young widow in the local Hasidic community, drawing the disapproval of those around her, including Dovi, an Orthodox Jewish man.
John Turturro directed, wrote and stars in the film, his third feature as director after Illuminata and Romance & Cigarettes. Woody Allen plays Murray, with Vanessa Paradis as Avigal, Liev Schreiber as Dovi, and Sharon Stone and Sofía Vergara as two of Fioravante's clients. The production came from Antidote Films, with Paul Hanson, Jeffrey Kusama-Hinte and Bill Block serving as producers.
The comedy runs 90 minutes and was released in 2013. It earned about 3 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.2 from roughly 26,000 votes, while on TMDB it has a 5.8 from about 625 votes. A critics' rating of 5.8 from 145 reviews places it close to the audience scores, indicating a generally mixed response across viewers and reviewers alike.
