The Face of Love

Five years after her husband Garrett died while travelling in Mexico, Nikki drifts through her days, leaning on her friend Roger for support. A chance meeting changes that: she encounters Tom, an art teacher with a warm, outgoing manner, and feels an instant pull toward him. What she knows and he does not is that Tom is the spitting image of Garrett, down to his looks and his interest in art. Drawn to the possibility of bringing her past back into her present, Nikki pursues the relationship, while Tom gradually senses that her feelings for him are tied to something she will not explain. Tom, too, keeps parts of his own life to himself.

Arie Posin directed and co-wrote the film with Matthew McDuffie, and Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn produced it. It was Posin's second feature, following his 2005 debut The Chumscrubber and preceding The In Between in 2022. Annette Bening plays Nikki, Ed Harris takes the dual role of Garrett and Tom, and Robin Williams appears as Roger, with Jess Weixler, Amy Brenneman and Linda Park in supporting parts. Made for about four million dollars, the film drew modest audiences and divided viewers: on IMDb it sits at 6.2 from some 6,200 votes, and on TMDB at 6.1 from a smaller pool. A critics' score of 5.2 from 75 reviews places it below those audience figures.
