Body of Evidence

A wealthy older man is found dead in his bedroom, and the medical evidence points to heart failure during a sexual encounter. Because his will leaves a large share of his estate to Rebecca Carlson, the woman he had been seeing, the district attorney, Robert Garrett, charges her with deliberately using sex to cause the man's death and inherit his money. Defense attorney Frank Dulaney takes her case, and as he builds his argument in court he becomes personally involved with his client, an affair that puts his marriage and his judgment at risk.

Uli Edel directed the film, which sits between Last Exit to Brooklyn and Tyson in a career that also includes The Baader Meinhof Complex. Brad Mirman wrote the screenplay, and Bernd Eichinger and Dino De Laurentiis produced for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Constantin Film and Dino de Laurentiis Communications. Madonna plays Rebecca opposite Willem Dafoe as Frank, with Julianne Moore, Anne Archer, Jürgen Prochnow and Frank Langella in supporting roles.

Made for around 30 million dollars, the film returned roughly 38 million worldwide. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5 out of 10 from 351 votes, and its critics' rating stands at 3.1 out of 10 from 39 reviews, so audiences and critics alike responded coolly to a courtroom thriller built around its two leads.
