Grace of Monaco

Grace of Monaco dramatizes a period in the life of American actress Grace Kelly, who left Hollywood to marry Prince Rainier III and became Princess of Monaco. Six years into the marriage, in the early 1960s, she faces a choice between returning to the screen and her duties in her adopted country. France's president, Charles de Gaulle, is pressing Monaco over taxes and borders, and the dispute threatens the small principality's sovereignty. At the same time, Alfred Hitchcock offers her a leading role, reviving the pull of the career she gave up.

Olivier Dahan directs from a screenplay by Arash Amel. The film came after Dahan's Crimson Rivers II: Angels of the Apocalypse and La Vie en Rose, and before Simone: Woman of the Century. Nicole Kidman plays Grace, with Tim Roth as Rainier III, Paz Vega as Maria Callas, Frank Langella as Father Francis Tucker, Parker Posey as Madge Tivey-Faucon and Milo Ventimiglia as Rupert Allan.

The production involved companies in several countries and had a budget of about 30 million dollars; its worldwide box office came to roughly 28 million, so it did not recover its cost in cinemas. On IMDb it holds 5.7 out of 10 from around 22,000 votes, and on TMDB 6 out of 10 from 634 votes. A critics' rating of 3.4 out of 10 from 73 reviews is markedly lower than the audience scores.
