Raja Hindustani

Raja Hindustani is an Indian romantic drama about Raja, a taxi driver from a village, and Aarti, the daughter of a wealthy businessman. The two fall in love while Aarti is spending time in the countryside, and despite her family's objections they marry and settle in Raja's village. Their happiness is threatened when Aarti's stepmother, together with other relatives, works to drive a wedge between the couple. Aamir Khan and Karisma Kapoor play the leads, with Johnny Lever, Suresh Oberoi, Archana Puran Singh and Navneet Nishan in supporting roles.

The film was directed by Dharmesh Darshan, who wrote the screenplay with W. B. Rao and Robin Bhatt, and it was produced by Bunty Soorma, Karim Morani and Ali Morani. It was Darshan's first film as director, followed by Dhadkan in 2000. Running 177 minutes, it belongs to the romance and drama genres and was released in November 1996.

Audience response has been mixed. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.1 from around 9,200 votes, while on TMDB it has a rating of 6.4 from a much smaller base of about 73 votes.
