Chill Factor

Chill Factor is an action thriller about two ordinary men who end up responsible for a stolen chemical weapon. Ten years after a secret military experiment went wrong on a remote island, killing eighteen soldiers, the scientist behind the formula is attacked by the operation's former commander, who blames him for the disaster. Before dying, the scientist passes the weapon, nicknamed Elvis, to Tim Mason, a store clerk. Because the substance is unstable and becomes lethal once it warms up, Tim forces Arlo, an ice cream truck driver, to transport it in his refrigerated truck. The two men set off across the American West toward a military base while the man hunting them closes in. The film was directed by Hugh Johnson from a screenplay by Drew Gitlin and Mike Cheda, and produced by James G. Robinson. Cuba Gooding Jr. and Skeet Ulrich play Arlo and Tim, with Peter Firth as the pursuing officer, David Paymer as the scientist and Hudson Leick and Daniel Hugh Kelly in supporting roles. It was released in 1999 and runs 101 minutes. Made for a budget of 34 million dollars, it took in about 11 million worldwide, a result well below its cost. On IMDb it holds 5.3 out of 10 from around 10,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 4.9 from 153 votes. The critics' rating of 4.1 from 78 reviews places it below even the modest audience scores.
