Kissed

Sandra Larson has been drawn to death since childhood, a fascination that deepens as she grows older. As an adult she takes a job at a funeral home run by Mr. Wallis, where her work with the dead becomes more than a profession. Her attraction to the bodies in her care takes a necrophilic form, shaping her intimate life in ways she keeps hidden from those around her.

Matt, a medical student, falls for Sandra and the two grow close, but he cannot reach the world she inhabits, and his feelings bring him increasing pain as he learns how far her desires run. The Canadian drama was directed by Lynne Stopkewich, who co-wrote it with Angus Fraser and produced it with Dean English. It was her first feature, followed by Suspicious River and October Kiss. Molly Parker plays Sandra, with Peter Outerbridge as Matt, Jay Brazeau as Mr. Wallis and Natasha Morley as the young Sandra among a credited cast of 23. Made in Canada with backing from British Columbia Film and the Canada Council for the Arts, the film runs 78 minutes. On IMDb it holds a critics' rating of 6.7/10 from 22 reviews, while on TMDB it sits at 6.4/10 from 87 votes, a small gap between professional and audience responses.
