Good Boy!
Short description
Owen Baker is a lonely twelve-year-old who earns the right to adopt a dog after spending his summer walking pets for his neighbors. He chooses a scruffy dog he names Hubble, but soon discovers he can understand the animal's speech. Hubble is actually an operative from the star Sirius, sent by a superior leader to determine if dogs have successfully fulfilled their ancient mission to rule the Earth. Upon realizing that dogs have instead become domesticated pets, the alien visitor must work with Owen and other local dogs to prevent the global canine population from being deported back to Sirius.
This science fiction family comedy was directed by John Hoffman, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Zeke Richardson. The film was produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Jim Henson Pictures. The cast features Liam Aiken as Owen and Molly Shannon as his mother, with voice acting provided by Matthew Broderick, Brittany Murphy, Donald Faison, and Cheech Marin.
Produced with a budget of 17 million USD, the movie has received a moderate reception from viewers. On TMDB, it holds a rating of 5.6/10 based on 150 votes.
What's left behind the scenes
- Liam Aiken was given an Italian Greyhound puppy, which he named Kes, for his work in the film. It was given to him on the last day of filming, but only in the evening, because his saddest scene in the movie was being filmed that same day and the crew did not want him to be too joyful at that moment.
- The cap worn by Liam Aiken's character says "GB03" — the first letters of the movie's title (Good Boy!) and the year of its release (2003).
- The film's director allowed Liam Aiken to hold the camera and shoot one shot. However, it was later cut and did not make it into the final version of the movie.
