Flirting

Flirting is an Australian coming-of-age drama set in 1965. Danny Embling, a shy student at a boys' boarding school in New South Wales, becomes involved with Thandiwe Adjewa, a girl from Uganda and Kenya who attends a girls' school across the lake. Their relationship develops over the school year, but it meets resistance: the schools are strictly separated, and the couple's mixed-race relationship provokes strong reactions from classmates and teachers alike. John Duigan wrote and directed the film, which followed his 1989 release Romero and preceded Sirens, Lawn Dogs and Head in the Clouds. Noah Taylor plays Danny, Thandie Newton plays Thandiwe, and Nicole Kidman appears as Nicola Radcliffe.

The production was handled by Kennedy Miller Productions, with Terry Hayes, Doug Mitchell and George Miller as producers. The film runs 99 minutes and was released in March 1991.

Its commercial performance was modest relative to its reported budget of 20 million US dollars, with worldwide box office of about 2 million. On TMDB it holds a rating of 6.7 out of 10 from 86 votes, indicating a generally favorable but limited audience response.
