Awarapan centres on Shivam, a man who has spent years carrying the weight of a tragedy from his past and has found little but pain and loneliness since. He works for Malik, a gangster with business interests in Hong Kong, and has become his trusted right-hand man. Malik asks him to watch over his young mistress, Reema, while he travels, with one condition attached: if she proves unfaithful, Shivam is to kill her. He agrees, but as he follows her he begins to refuse the order, and the position he has held for so long starts to come apart.
The film was directed by Mohit Suri, the earliest of the titles listed in his filmography, and written by Shagufta Rafique, with Mukesh Bhatt and Mahesh Bhatt producing. Emraan Hashmi plays Shivam, with Mrinalini Sharma as Reema and Shriya Saran as Aaliyah. The cast also includes Ashish Vidhyarthi as Raja D. Malik, alongside Salil Acharya and Purab Kohli as Ronnie and Munna Malik.
Made on a budget of about 6 million dollars, it runs 124 minutes and is a crime action drama from Vishesh Films. On IMDb it holds 7.4 out of 10 from roughly 9,500 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.9 out of 10 from a much smaller number of votes.
