Pure Country

Dusty Chandler is a country music superstar whose concerts have grown into elaborate spectacles closer to 1970s rock shows than to the music he grew up with. When the spectacle starts to overshadow the songs themselves, he slips away from his tour without telling his manager, Lula, and heads back toward the rural roots he left behind. Travelling quietly and unrecognized, he ends up working on a family ranch, where he earns the respect of its owner, Ernest, and grows close to Ernest's granddaughter, Harley, while his manager scrambles to cover his absence.

Pure Country was released in 1992 and runs 112 minutes. It is a drama with music and romance, made in the United States, and was directed by Christopher Cain, whose earlier films include The Principal and Young Guns and whose later ones include The Next Karate Kid and Gone Fishin'. Rex McGee wrote the screenplay and Jerry Weintraub produced. The cast is led by country singer George Strait as Dusty, alongside Lesley Ann Warren as Lula, Isabel Glasser as Harley, Kyle Chandler as Buddy Jackson, John Doe as Earl Blackstock and Rory Calhoun as Ernest Tucker.

The film took in about 15 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.2 from roughly 5,800 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.9 from a much smaller 86 votes. A critics' rating of 4.7 from 22 reviews places it well below the audience scores.
