Short description
For Tammy, a burger-joint employee, a bad day keeps getting worse. She wrecks her car, loses her job and finds that her husband has been unfaithful. It's time for Tammy to hit the road, but without money or transportation, her options are limited. Her only choice is a road trip with her hard-drinking grandmother, Pearl, who has a car, cash and an itch to see Niagara Falls. It's not the escape Tammy had in mind, but it may be what she needs.

What's left behind the scenes

  • The plot is based on a dream that Ben Falcone had. The dream was about his wife, Melissa McCarthy, a fast-food restaurant employee whose life is falling apart.
  • Shirley MacLaine was originally planned for the role of the grandmother, but since it was not possible to coordinate the filming schedule with the series "Downton Abbey" (2010), in which the actress was involved, the role went to Susan Sarandon. Debbie Reynolds was also considered for this role.
  • At the beginning of the film, when Tammy is fired, you can notice that Ben Falcone's tie clip changes position between shots.
  • When Tammy goes to the nursing home to rescue her grandmother, the plot states they should be in Illinois, but all the cars in the parking lot have Kentucky license plates.
  • Shirley MacLaine was initially considered for the role of the grandmother, but since it was impossible to coordinate her filming schedule with the series "Downton Abbey" (2010), in which the actress was involved, the role went to Susan Sarandon. Debbie Reynolds was also considered for the part.
