Short description

A group of teenagers stumble on blueprints for a time machine and decide to build the device themselves. The plans belong to the late father of David Raskin, a high school inventor, and once the machine works, it can only send them a short distance into the past, just days at a time. That proves enough for the friends to rewrite test scores, settle family money troubles and enjoy the rewards of knowing what comes next. Their luck does not hold, and the small changes they make begin to pile up with consequences none of them can control.

Project Almanac was released in 2015 and marks the feature directing debut of Dean Israelite, who went on to make Power Rangers and Little Wing. Jason Pagan, Andrew Stark and Andrew Deutschman wrote the screenplay, and Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Bradley Fuller produced. Jonny Weston plays David, with Sofia Black-D'Elia, Sam Lerner, Allen Evangelista, Virginia Gardner and Amy Landecker among the cast.

Made for about 12 million dollars, the film took in roughly 33 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.4 out of 10 from around 88,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.8 from a smaller group of users. A critics' rating of 4.8 from 98 reviews is noticeably lower than either audience figure.

What's left behind the scenes

  • In one of the film’s episodes, the characters watch a video of a plane crash online. This used footage of a real B-52 plane crash that occurred in 1994, in which four U.S. Air Force servicemen died. Their relatives were outraged, after which producer Michael Bay apologized and the scene was cut from the film. The same video of the plane crash was also used in Robert Zemeckis’s drama “Flight” (2012) starring Denzel Washington, but the video footage was edited there.
