The Longest Ride

The Longest Ride follows two couples whose lives become connected. Luke is a professional bull rider in North Carolina trying to rebuild his career after a serious injury, while Sophia is a college student about to leave for an art internship in New York. Their relationship is tested by the demands of his sport and her ambitions. In a separate thread, Ira Levinson, a ninety-one-year-old man, is trapped in his wrecked car after a crash; while he drifts in and out of consciousness, he revisits his long marriage to Ruth, who died years earlier. The film is based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, and Ira's recollections eventually draw the younger pair into his story.

George Tillman Jr. directed the film, which sits between Faster (2010) and The Hate U Give (2018) in his filmography. Craig Bolotin wrote the screenplay, and the producers included Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen and Nicholas Sparks. Britt Robertson and Scott Eastwood play Sophia and Luke, with Alan Alda as the older Ira, Jack Huston and Oona Chaplin as the younger Ira and Ruth, and Melissa Benoist as Marcia.

Released in April 2015, the film runs 128 minutes. Against a budget of 34 million dollars, it took in about 63 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.1/10 from around 94,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.6/10 from roughly 3,375 votes, both well above the critics' rating of 4.4/10 from 120 reviews.
