Boss

Boss centres on a man known as Boss, who was cast out by his father in childhood and raised by a crime boss loyal to a code of facing every enemy with a smile. His estranged father turns to him for help when his brother Shiv is jailed on a false charge, setting up a clash between family loyalty and the criminal world Boss serves. Standing in his way is Ayushman Thakur, a corrupt and ruthless police officer who holds an entire region in fear, leaving its residents with no one to turn to but Boss. The film mixes action and drama with comic interludes.

Anthony D'Souza directed the 2013 Indian release, working from a screenplay by Farhad Samji and Sajid Samji. Akshay Kumar plays the title role, with Shiv Panditt as Shiv, Mithun Chakraborty as Satyakant, Ronit Roy as Ayushman Thakur, Aditi Rao Hydari as Ankita and Johnny Lever as Zorawar. Running 143 minutes, it came out in October 2013 and belongs to the run of action-led films D'Souza directed after his earlier features.

Audience response was modest. On IMDb the rating is 5.1 out of 10 from around 13,000 votes, and on TMDB it is 5.6 out of 10 from 93 votes. Both figures point to a mixed reception among viewers rather than broad enthusiasm, with the larger IMDb sample suggesting the verdict held fairly steady.
