Jamesy Boy is a crime drama built on the real experiences of James Burns, a teenager from the Denver suburbs who drifts into a street gang and ends up in a maximum-security prison among hardened offenders. Behind bars he forms an unlikely friendship with Conrad, a man serving time for murder, who becomes a mentor and pushes him toward changing his life. Outside the prison walls, James's mother Tracy struggles to reach her son, while a strict guard, Lieutenant Falton, makes his time inside harder. The story also follows his relationship with Sarah. The film moves between the gang years and the prison term, tracing how a young man tries to leave that life behind and start again.
Trevor White directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Lane Shadgett. It was White's first feature as director, arriving before his later work behind the camera. Spencer Lofranco plays James, with Mary-Louise Parker as Tracy, Ving Rhames as Conrad, James Woods as Lieutenant Falton, Taissa Farmiga as Sarah and Rosa Salazar as Crystal.
Released in January 2014, the film runs 109 minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.1/10 from 19 critics' reviews, while on TMDB it sits at 6.4/10 from around 180 votes, a gap suggesting audiences responded more warmly than reviewers did. Its theatrical run was limited, and no box office figures are recorded here.
