Giovanni's Island

Set on the island of Shikotan following the end of the Second World War, this historical drama focuses on the arrival of Soviet forces and the subsequent annexation of the territory. Amidst the tension of military occupation and cultural clashes, two children from different countries form a friendship despite their language barriers. The story follows brothers Junpei and Kanta as they navigate a changing world and seek to reunite with their father after his arrest.

The film was co-directed by Mizuho Nishikubo and Masaki Tachibana. For Nishikubo, this project followed works such as Patlabor 2: The Movie and the Ghost in the Shell series. Tachibana directed this after Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - Solid State Society and before the Princess Principal Crown Handler series and Blue Thermal. The voice cast includes Masachika Ichimura, Yukie Nakama, Kanako Yanagihara, Yusuke Santamaria, Kota Yokoyama, and Junya Taniai.
