Oh, God!

Jerry Landers is an assistant manager at a supermarket, an ordinary man with an ordinary life, until an elderly stranger introduces himself as God and asks Jerry to speak for him to the modern world. Jerry's new role brings him ridicule rather than respect, and skeptics demand proof that his claims are true. After he publicly denounces a preacher at God's instruction, he faces legal trouble, and the question of whether God exists becomes a matter for a courtroom rather than a matter of faith. The film is a comedy about an average person chosen for an impossible job, with George Burns as the Almighty and John Denver as the reluctant messenger.

Carl Reiner directed the film, the first of ten features he made and the earliest title in a run that continued with The Jerk, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid and All of Me. Larry Gelbart wrote the screenplay, Jerry Weintraub produced, and the cast includes Teri Garr as Jerry's wife Bobbie, Donald Pleasence as Doctor Harmon, Ralph Bellamy as Sam Raven and William Daniels as George Summers, among 37 credited performers. Made by Warner Bros. Pictures and released in October 1977, it runs 98 minutes and took about 42 million dollars worldwide.
