Happy, Texas

Two convicts break out of a prison transport and steal a campervan, then stop in the small Texas town of Happy. There the locals mistake them for the gay couple expected to coach a group of girls for an upcoming beauty pageant. Eager to stay hidden from the authorities, the fugitives play along. Their situation grows complicated because the local sheriff is hiding something of his own.

Mark Illsley directed the comedy and co-wrote the screenplay with Ed Stone and Phil Reeves, with Illsley, Rick Montgomery and Stone producing. Jeremy Northam and Steve Zahn star as the fugitives Harry Sawyer and Wayne Wayne Wayne Jr., alongside William H. Macy as Sheriff Chappy Dent, Ally Walker, Illeana Douglas and M.C. Gainey. A cast of 28 is credited.

Made for a small budget, the film earned roughly the same amount worldwide, so it did not become a commercial success. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.7 out of 10 from 129 votes, suggesting a modest audience response.
