Alice Through the Looking Glass
Short description
Alice Kingsleigh has spent years at sea, following in her father's footsteps as a ship's captain. Back in London, she is drawn through a magical mirror and returns to Underland, where she reunites with the White Rabbit, Absolem, the Cheshire Cat and the Mad Hatter. The Hatter, however, is no longer himself, and the White Queen sends Alice to find the Chronosphere, a metal device inside the Great Clock that governs all time. Travelling into the past, Alice encounters friends and enemies at earlier points in their lives as she races to save the Hatter and his family.
The film is directed by James Bobin, his third feature after The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted, and his first outside the Muppets series. Linda Woolverton wrote the screenplay, and Tim Burton, who directed the previous Alice film, produced alongside Jennifer Todd and Suzanne Todd. Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter reprise their roles, with Sacha Baron Cohen joining as Time and Matt Lucas as the Tweedles.
Against a budget of 170 million US dollars, the film took about 299 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.2 out of 10 from roughly 134,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.6 out of 10 from around 6,900 votes. A critics' rating of 4.6 out of 10 from 260 reviews places it clearly below the audience scores.
