Paula

A woman struggling with the grief of a recent miscarriage accidentally hits a child with her car. Frightened, she flees the scene and keeps the accident a secret. Consumed by remorse, she later tracks the boy to a hospital and discovers he has lost the ability to speak. She dedicates herself to helping him recover his speech, even though doing so risks the boy identifying her as the person responsible for his injuries.

This 1952 drama was produced by Columbia Pictures and directed by Rudolph Maté. Within the director's career, it follows The Dark Past and When Worlds Collide, and precedes Second Chance.
