Four friends who have known each other since school are now drifting through early adulthood, their lives less eventful than the wild days they remember. Jay, travelling through Australia on a gap year, invites Will, Simon and Neil to join him, painting the country as a paradise of parties and easy romance. The three accept, keen to escape their routines and recapture the freedom of their school years, though the reality they find once they arrive falls some way short of Jay's claims. The group sets off on a road trip that tests their friendships and their patience with one another.
The Inbetweeners 2 is a comedy directed by Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, who also wrote the screenplay. It was the first feature either of them directed, followed later by The Festival and My Oxford Year. Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas reprise the roles of Will, Jay, Neil and Simon, with Emily Berrington and Freddie Stroma among the supporting cast of twenty-four credited performers. Spencer Millman produced.
Made for a modest budget of about three million dollars, the film took roughly sixty-four million dollars worldwide, a strong return for a British comedy of its scale. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.1 out of ten from 557 votes, while a critics' score of 5.9 out of ten from 42 reviews places professional and general audiences closely in agreement.
