Camp X-Ray follows Amy Cole, a young woman who enlists in the military hoping to escape her small-town background and find a larger purpose. She expects to be sent to Iraq, but instead is assigned as a guard at the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay. There she faces a daily reality far removed from clear notions of right and wrong, surrounded by hostile detainees and aggressive fellow soldiers. Over time she forms an unlikely bond with Ali, a prisoner who has been held at the camp for years, and begins to question the treatment of the men in her charge.
The film is a drama written and directed by Peter Sattler, marking his feature debut. Kristen Stewart plays Amy Cole, with Payman Maadi as Ali and Lane Garrison as Corporal Randy, part of a credited cast of twenty-one. It was produced by Gina Kwon with Rough House Pictures, Young Gang, Gotham Group and Upload Films, on a budget of one million dollars.
Released in October 2014, the film has an IMDb rating of 6.8 from 44,000 votes and a TMDB rating of 6.7 from 1,129 votes, while critics gave it 6.3 from 57 reviews, a slightly lower figure than the audience scores.
