A girl named Sara travels to an old mining town for summer vacation to visit her eccentric Uncle Freddie, bringing along her mischievous dog, Beethoven. While digging, the dog finds a clue to a legendary hidden fortune, sparking a frenzied treasure hunt among the town's odd residents. As the community competes to befriend the dog to find the riches, Sara, Freddie, and a friend named Garrett work to uncover a long-standing local secret.

This family comedy was directed by Mark Griffiths, following his 1984 film Hardbodies and preceding his 2004 project Going the Distance. The movie was produced by Mike Elliott and features a cast including Dave Thomas, Faith Ford, Daveigh Chase, Tom Poston, Katherine Helmond, and Sammy Kahn.
