Clouds of Sils Maria

Maria Enders is a movie star who got her start on stage at eighteen, playing Sigrid in a play about a young woman who fascinates an older woman named Helena and drives her to suicide. Two decades later, at the height of her career, she is asked to appear in a revival of that same play, but this time in the role of Helena rather than Sigrid. She travels to the Swiss village of Sils Maria with her personal assistant and friend Valentine to work on the part, while a young Hollywood actress known for scandal takes on Sigrid. The arrangement forces Maria to measure her younger self against the woman she has become.

Olivier Assayas directed and wrote the film, the tenth of the fifteen features he has directed, between Something in the Air and Personal Shopper. Juliette Binoche plays Maria, with Kristen Stewart as Valentine and Chloë Grace Moretz as Jo-Ann Ellis; Lars Eidinger, Johnny Flynn and Brady Corbet also appear. The film was made for about 7 million USD and returned roughly 2 million USD worldwide.

On IMDb it holds 6.8/10 from more than 30,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.6/10 from a much smaller number of votes, while the critics' rating stands at 7.7/10 from 181 reviews, notably higher than either audience figure.
