Secret Admirer

Secret Admirer is a 1985 American comedy about Michael Ryan, a high school student who receives an anonymous love letter on the last day of school. He hopes it came from Deborah, the popular girl he has been trying to impress, and sets out to find out who wrote it, with help from his close friend Toni. The letter passes through several other hands, and the misunderstandings it creates spread through both his family and Deborah's, as parents begin suspecting one another of secret affections.

The film was directed by David Greenwalt, who wrote the screenplay with Jim Kouf; Stephen J. Roth produced it for Orion Pictures. C. Thomas Howell plays Michael, with Lori Loughlin as Toni, Kelly Preston as Deborah, and Dee Wallace, Cliff DeYoung and Leigh Taylor-Young as the parents caught up in the confusion. The cast and crew together number 28 credited performers and 60 credited crew members.

Released in June 1985, the film had a modest theatrical run, taking in about 9 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 6.5 rating from roughly 8,900 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.7 from around 205 votes, a small sample by comparison. The two audience scores land close together, indicating a generally mild positive response to this mistaken-identity comedy.
