Francesco Taramelli is a psychoanalyst in his fifties who has raised three daughters on his own since his wife left. Marta, a bookseller, falls for men who do not love her back. Sara, a lesbian, keeps getting dropped whenever a relationship turns serious and decides she wants to change course. Emma is eighteen and has started seeing a married man who is her father's age. It is their father, not their patients, who has to sort out these affairs of the heart.
Paolo Genovese directed and co-wrote the film, which arrived in 2014, after The Santa Claus Gang, The Immature and The Immature: The Trip, and before Perfect Strangers. Marco Belardi produced it for Lotus Production and Medusa Film. Marco Giallini plays Francesco, with Vittoria Puccini, Anna Foglietta and Laura Adriani as Marta, Sara and Emma; Vinicio Marchioni and Daniele Liotti are also in a cast of twenty-seven.
A comedy set in Italy and running two hours, the film holds a rating of 6.7 out of 10 on TMDB from just over a thousand votes, which suggests a modest but fairly consistent level of approval.
