Allyson and her friends are exhausted by the demands of motherhood and marriage, and they decide they deserve one evening away: dinner, adult conversation, a few hours of freedom. The plan depends on their husbands staying home to look after the children. The night quickly goes off course, with problems at home piling up while the women are out, and the fathers give conflicting accounts of how the children are doing.
The 2014 American comedy was directed by Jon Erwin and Andrew Erwin, their second feature after October Baby (2011) and the second of the eight films Jon Erwin has directed, a run that continues through Young Washington. Andrea Gyertson Nasfell and Jon Erwin wrote the screenplay, and David A.R. White, Kevin Downes and Jon Erwin produced. Sarah Drew plays Allyson, with Sean Astin, Patricia Heaton, Andrea Logan White, Robert Amaya and Samantha Hanratty among the cast of twenty-two credited performers. Made for about 5 million dollars, it took roughly 10 million dollars worldwide.
Audience response was mild, with a rating of 5.3 from around 15,000 votes on IMDb and 5.6 from roughly 314 votes on TMDB. A critics' rating of 4.4 from 42 reviews places it below both audience scores, though the gap is not wide.
