Bad Ass 2: Bad Asses
Short description
Frank Vega, a Vietnam veteran living in Los Angeles, has settled into a quieter life running a community center where he mentors young boxers, guiding them both in the ring and outside it. That life is disrupted when Manny, his most promising student, becomes involved with the wrong people and is found dead. Frank turns to his friend Bernie Pope, a reclusive and irritable retiree, and the two set out on their own to deal with those responsible. Their approach relies on little more than their wits and their fists, and it soon puts both men in danger.
The film is directed by Craig Moss, who also wrote the screenplay, and it follows his earlier Bad Ass from 2012 and 30 Nights of Paranormal Activity With the Devil Inside the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo from 2013. Danny Trejo returns as Frank Vega, with Danny Glover as Bernie Pope. Andrew Divoff, Jacqueline Obradors, Jonathan Lipnicki and Charlie Carver appear in supporting roles. The production, made by Silver Nitrate and Sense and Sensibility Ventures, had a budget of 6 million dollars and runs 91 minutes.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 5.6 out of 10 from about 5,300 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1 out of 10 from roughly 221 votes, indicating a modest and limited reception for this action sequel.
What's left behind the scenes
- At the beginning of the film, in the scene with Manny's sparring match, Frank tells him to "work the body," after which Manny starts hitting lower, and it can then be noticed that his sparring partner was clearly not prepared for one of the blows, which was accidentally delivered below the belt.
- When Bernie's truck is driving along a mountain road, during panoramic shots something larger is visible in the truck bed, but when the truck is shown from the front, it is clear that there is nothing in the bed.
- When Bernie picks up the truck from the warehouse, at the moment he tries to start it, the operator is visible in the reflection of his sunglasses.
- When Leandro Herrera lies beaten on the ground, he asks someone to call "Amberlamps" (emergency services). This is a reference to a viral video by Thomas Bruso (which served as a primary source of inspiration for the filmmakers), in which a beaten passenger also asked to call "Amberlamps".
