Short description
A group of friends emerge from the darkness, bloody and lucky to be alive. Having already lost two friends in the marsh, they break into an empty vacation house to take shelter. Whatever was in the marsh is still after them, but it's not the only thing that wants them dead. Something much worse and more savage lays in wait.
What's left behind the scenes
- The film was shot on the Cape Cod peninsula in Massachusetts exclusively at night and primarily outdoors.
- The film uses very few computer special effects, as director, producer, and screenwriter Steve Walsh stated from the start that he did not intend to be a 'director for computers.' Walsh conceived many of the special effects himself and developed the props for them.
- The fictional location called West Craven is a reference to director, producer, and screenwriter Wes Craven (1939-2015).
- The film features many dangerous stunts. Almost all of them had to be performed in a single take due to a limited budget and a tight filming schedule.
- The film's sound was mixed at Universal Studios Sound Facilities on weekends, although the work had to be interrupted repeatedly as Justin Lin's action movie Fast & Furious 6 (2013) was being finalized there at the time. Regardless, the film impressed the head of the sound department so much that he handled the mixing personally and free of charge.
- At the Screen Actors Guild, Steve Warsh was told that this was one of the five most dangerous scripts they had ever seen, and they expressed concern for the life and health of the actors traveling to Massachusetts for filming.
- The towns of Dennis and West Dennis served as the fictional town of West Craven on the Cape Cod peninsula in Massachusetts.
- Applying Kane Hodder's makeup took 6 hours every day. This was the first film in which he appeared shirtless.
