Set eight months after the earlier film, Crows Zero II follows Genji Takaya as his time at Suzuran High School nears its end. He has beaten Tamao Serizawa but still has not managed to bring the school's students together, and the release of a former student from juvenile detention reopens an old grievance with the rival Hosen Academy. A peace between the two schools collapses, and Genji's group is blamed for breaking it, while a revenge attack is prepared and a plot also forms against Genji's father. The film is a sequel, continuing the story of the Suzuran students and their feud with Hosen.
Takashi Miike directed, working from a screenplay by Shogo Muto and Mataichirô Yamamoto; it is the twenty-second of the forty-two films he directed in chronological order, arriving between Zatoichi Live and 13 Assassins. Shun Oguri plays Genji, with Takayuki Yamada, Kenta Kiritani, Meisa Kuroki, Kyosuke Yabe and Sousuke Takaoka among a credited cast of thirty. Released in Japan in April 2009, the film took about 30 million dollars worldwide. On TMDB it holds a rating of 7.2 out of 10 from roughly 250 votes, a level of approval that indicates a generally favourable response.
