A sniper has begun shooting people in Tokyo, leaving the streets quiet and the public afraid to go out. Conan Edogawa and his friends are present when a man is killed by a bullet fired from a distance during a visit to a tall tower in the city. The investigation that follows draws in Masumi Sera and the FBI, and the shooter keeps taking lives, including those of people who are themselves suspects. Conan must work out the motive behind the shootings before more victims fall, while the case turns out to involve more than a single gunman.
The film is directed by Kobun Shizuno, the fifth of fourteen films he has directed in chronological order, following Detective Conan: Private Eye in the Distant Sea and preceding Detective Conan: Sunflowers of Inferno. Kazunari Kouchi wrote the screenplay, and Michihiko Suwa, Mitomu Asai and Keiichi Ishiyama produced. Minami Takayama voices Conan, with Kappei Yamaguchi as Shinichi Kudo, Wakana Yamazaki as Ran Mouri, Rikiya Koyama as Kogoro Mouri, Noriko Hidaka as Masumi Sera and Shuichi Ikeda as Shuichi Akai among the twenty-nine credited cast members and 110 credited crew.
Released in Japan in April 2014, the film runs 110 minutes and falls within the action, animation, drama and mystery genres. Its worldwide box office reached 42 million USD. Audiences rate it 6.7 out of 10 on IMDb from around 2,100 votes and 6.8 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 141 votes, placing it as a modestly received entry in the long-running series.
