Miss Meadows

Miss Meadows is an elementary school teacher who presents a gentle, well-mannered face to the world. Behind that polite exterior, she keeps a polished pistol in her handbag and takes it upon herself to punish people she judges to have done wrong. Her habit of moving from town to town helps keep her double life hidden, but her resolve is tested when she grows close to the sheriff of the community where she is currently working. He begins to notice how carefully she avoids questions about her past, and the two sides of her life start to press against each other.

Karen Leigh Hopkins wrote and directed the film, which runs 88 minutes and was produced by Rob Carliner and Eric Brenner through Myriad Pictures and Wiretap Films. Katie Holmes plays the title role, with James Badge Dale as the sheriff, Callan Mulvey as Skylar, Mary Kay Place as Mrs. Davenport, Saidah Arrika Ekulona as a doctor and James Landry Hébert as Derek Weaver. It was made on a budget of about 2 million dollars.

Reception was modest. On IMDb and on TMDB, audience ratings sit around the middle of the scale, with the TMDB figure standing at 5.9 out of 10 from a few hundred votes. A critics' rating of 4.6 out of 10 from 20 reviews places professional opinion below the audience response, though neither measurement suggests a broadly admired film.
