Wellman Anthony Santee, a former racing driver who now moves stolen luxury cars, is wrongly blamed for the killing of a police officer. The man actually responsible is a corrupt lieutenant named Severence, who wants Santee silenced because he knows too much. Santee escapes custody, taking a young woman with him as a hostage without realising she works for the sheriff's department. As the chase crosses the desert, the two become uneasy allies against the people pursuing them.
Joshua Tree is a 1993 American action film directed by Vic Armstrong, a veteran stunt coordinator here making his first feature behind the camera; his second film as director followed much later. Steven Pressfield wrote the screenplay. Dolph Lundgren plays Santee, with Kristian Alfonso as his captive, Rita Marek, and George Segal as the corrupt officer. The supporting cast includes Geoffrey Lewis, Beau Starr and Michelle Phillips, part of a large credited company.
The film was made for about nine million dollars, a modest sum for an action release of its time, and its ratings are middling on both sides: critics gave it four out of ten across dozens of reviews, while on TMDB it holds a 6.2 average from fewer than two hundred votes. On IMDb it scores comparably, suggesting a small but not unfavourable audience.
