Tombstone
Short description
Set in the Arizona silver-mining town of Tombstone in the early 1880s, the film follows Wyatt Earp, a former lawman who has put aside his badge and gun in the hope of a quieter life with his brothers Virgil and Morgan. Their plans for prosperity are overtaken by the criminal elements drawn to the town's wealth, among them a large and violent gang. When the situation worsens, Earp takes up law enforcement again, with support from his friend Doc Holliday, a gambler and gunman. The story builds toward the confrontation at the O.K. Corral and draws on real events.
George P. Cosmatos directed, working from a screenplay by Kevin Jarre, with Sean Daniel, James Jacks and Bob Misiorowski producing. Tombstone was the seventh of the eight features Cosmatos directed, arriving between Leviathan and Shadow Conspiracy. Kurt Russell plays Wyatt Earp, Val Kilmer plays Doc Holliday, and Michael Biehn, Powers Boothe, Robert John Burke and Dana Delany are among the principal cast, with 58 credited performers and 123 credited crew members.
Made for about 25 million dollars, the film returned roughly 73 million dollars worldwide, a solid commercial result. Audiences rate it highly, at 7.6 out of 10 on TMDB across more than 2,500 votes, while the critics' rating stands lower, at 6.3 out of 10 from 48 reviews.

- According to George Pan Cosmatos, all the lightning and mustaches in the film are real.
- Doc Holliday plays Chopin's Nocturne No. 19, Op. 72 No. 1 on the piano.
- When Earp first rides into Tombstone, the inscription on one of the tombstones in the cemetery reads: “Here lies Lester Moore. Four .44 slugs. No more. No less.” A grave with the exact same epitaph exists in Tombstone, Arizona.
- Mr. Fabian reads the same passage from “Henry V” that Dutton Peabody reads in “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance” (1962).
- According to Val Kilmer, Kevin Jarre insisted that the actors wear wool suits to be accurate to the film's time period. During the theater scene, Kilmer said the temperature was around 134 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Robert Mitchum was originally cast as Old Man Clanton. On the first day of filming, he fell off a horse and injured his back. As a result, his role was written out of the script, and Robert narrated the opening and closing of the film.
