Prelude to a Kiss

Peter and Rita meet and fall in love, and their wedding day seems to mark the start of an ordinary married life together. During the celebration, an elderly stranger asks to kiss the bride. Rita agrees, and from that moment her behaviour changes sharply. Peter comes to understand that the man he married is no longer the woman he knew, and the search for the old man becomes his only way to reach her again. The film is a romantic comedy with a supernatural element, set around a young couple in the United States.

Norman René directed, working from a screenplay by Craig Lucas, with Michael Gruskoff and Michael I. Levy producing. Alec Baldwin plays Peter and Meg Ryan plays Rita, supported by Kathy Bates, Ned Beatty, Patty Duke and Richard Riehle among a credited cast of 27. The film runs 105 minutes and was released in July 1992, taking about 23 million dollars worldwide.
