Nobita Nobi is a schoolboy who struggles with nearly everything: he is late, bullied by classmates and seemingly unable to catch a break. His life changes when Sewashi, a boy who claims to be his descendant from the 22nd century, arrives from the future and leaves behind a robot cat named Doraemon to help Nobita improve his prospects. With Doraemon's futuristic gadgets at hand, Nobita faces everyday troubles, including his feelings for his classmate Shizuka, while Doraemon works toward the day he can return to his own time.
Stand by Me Doraemon is a 2014 Japanese animated film directed by Takashi Yamazaki and Ryuichi Yagi, with Yamazaki also writing the screenplay. Released in August 2014, it runs 94 minutes and blends adventure, drama, family and science fiction elements. The voice cast includes Wasabi Mizuta as Doraemon, Megumi Oohara as Nobita, Yumi Kakazu as Shizuka, Subaru Kimura as Gian, Tomokazu Seki as Suneo and Satoshi Tsumabuki as the adult Nobita.
The film sits sixth among the eighteen features Yamazaki has directed and followed his 2013 film The Eternal Zero. For Yagi it was his first directing credit, ahead of Dragon Quest: Your Story and Stand by Me Doraemon 2. Made on a budget of about 35 million dollars, it took roughly 183 million dollars worldwide. It holds a 7.4 rating on IMDb from around 11,000 votes and the same rating on TMDB from roughly 618 votes.
