Short description
After teenage ambulance driver Ernest Hemingway takes shrapnel in the leg during World War I, he falls in love with Agnes von Kurowsky, a beautiful older nurse at the hospital where he's sent to recover. Their affair slowly blossoms, until Hemingway boldly asks Agnes to be his wife and journey to America with him.
What's left behind the scenes
- Some scenes, including the battle sequences, were filmed in the Italian commune of Vittorio Veneto and its surroundings. Personnel from the nearby NATO Aviano Air Base participated in the crowd scenes.
- While preparing for the role of Agnes von Kurowski Stanfield (1892-1984), Sandra Bullock read her wartime diaries and her love correspondence with Ernest Hemingway (1899-1961).
