The Riot Club

The Riot Club follows two first-year students at Oxford University, Miles Richards and Alistair Ryle, who are recruited into an exclusive and secretive society with a long and notorious history. The club caters to the wealthiest and most privileged young men in Britain, and membership offers access to a world of influence, excess and entitlement. As Miles, who comes from a more grounded background, is drawn further into the group, his relationship with Lauren, a student who dislikes his new companions, becomes strained. The film builds toward a single evening whose consequences could make or destroy the reputations of those involved.

Directed by Lone Scherfig, the film sits between One Day and Their Finest in her filmography, after her earlier An Education. Laura Wade wrote the screenplay, adapted from her own stage play, and Graham Broadbent and Peter Czernin produced. The cast includes Max Irons as Miles, Sam Claflin as Alistair, Douglas Booth as Harry Villiers, Holliday Grainger as Lauren, Jessica Brown Findlay as Rachel and Natalie Dormer as Charlie, among 45 credited performers.

Released in September 2014, the British drama runs 107 minutes. Its worldwide box office of about 4 million dollars is modest. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6 out of 10 from around 25,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 5.9 out of 10 from roughly 1,030 votes. A critics' rating of 5.5 out of 10 from 70 reviews places it slightly below the audience scores on both platforms.
