Love Jones

Darius Lovehall is a young poet in Chicago who becomes involved with Nina Mosley, a photographer. Both are part of a circle of friends who spend their time together talking about love and sex, and the two of them are unsure whether what they have is a serious relationship or something more casual. When Nina puts Darius's feelings to the test, a series of romantic complications follows.

Love Jones was released in 1997 and was written and directed by Theodore Witcher, marking his debut as a feature filmmaker. Larenz Tate plays Darius and Nia Long plays Nina, with supporting turns from Isaiah Washington, Bill Bellamy, Lisa Nicole Carson and Marie-Françoise Theodore. The film runs 109 minutes and was produced by New Line Cinema with Addis Wechsler Pictures.

Made for a budget of 10 million dollars, the film took in 13 million dollars worldwide. It holds a rating of 7.4 out of 10 on IMDb from around 6,300 votes, and a matching 7.4 out of 10 on TMDB from a much smaller number of votes. A critics' rating of 6.7 out of 10 from 28 reviews places it somewhat below the audience scores.
