In Tokyo, people begin to disappear or die under unexplained circumstances after a young computer specialist named Taguchi takes his own life. His colleagues search for a reason behind the death and find a disk he left behind, which leads them to a strange website showing disturbing images of isolated figures in dark rooms. As the site spreads through computer networks, more deaths follow, and a group of young people tries to understand what is happening while the city's loneliness and despair seem to take on a physical presence.

Kiyoshi Kurosawa directed and wrote the film, which was released in 2001 and runs 119 minutes. It is the fifth of fifteen films he has directed, following Serpent's Path (1998) and preceding Tokyo Sonata (2008). The cast includes Kumiko Aso, Haruhiko Kato, Koyuki, Kurume Arisaka, Masatoshi Matsuo and Shinji Takeda, among 28 credited performers. It was produced by Seiji Okuda, Atsuyuki Shimoda and Hiroshi Yamamoto for Nippon Television Network Corporation, Hakuhodo, IMAGICA and Daiei Film, with a budget of 25 million USD.
