The Whip and the Body

Kurt Menliff, a nobleman cast out by his father, comes back to the family castle to claim what he considers his inheritance. His return brings him into conflict with those now living there, including his brother Cristiano and Nevenka, the woman who is part of the household. The film sets this struggle over property and family within the castle's walls and was marketed as a gothic horror story.

Mario Bava directed The Whip and the Body, the third title in the chronological list of his features that begins with Black Sunday in 1960 and Black Sabbath the same year, and continues through Blood and Black Lace and Planet of the Vampires. The screenplay is credited to Luciano Martino, Ernesto Gastaldi and Ugo Guerra. Christopher Lee plays Kurt, with Daliah Lavi as Nevenka, Tony Kendall as Cristiano Menliff, Ida Galli as Katia, Harriet Medin as Giorgia and Gustavo De Nardo as Count Menliff. It is an Italian and French co-production running 87 minutes.
